Wyndham Clark Wins Second U.S. Open Title at Shinnecock Hills
Wyndham Clark secured his second U.S. Open victory, finishing one stroke ahead of Sam Burns after a final-round birdie on the 72nd hole.
Wyndham Clark claimed his second U.S. Open championship at Shinnecock Hills, becoming the ninth player to win the tournament wire-to-wire and the 24th to capture multiple titles. Clark posted a 4-under-par total, edging Sam Burns by one stroke after sinking a 9-inch birdie putt on the final hole.
Burns recorded a 3-under-67 for the day, securing a solo second place and his third consecutive top-10 finish at the U.S. Open. Tom Kim finished third at 1-under, while Scottie Scheffler, J.T. Poston and Keith Mitchell tied for fourth at even par.
After the win, Clark said, "The first one was amazing, and this one seems even better. After a sour taste last year, winning again feels almost surreal."
Clark, who also won the 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club, had faced criticism for incidents at the 2023 Oakmont and PGA Championship events. He issued public apologies and noted personal growth over the past year.
The final round saw several challenges for the leaders. Scheffler, playing alongside Clark, struggled with only two birdies and fell back early. Burns applied early pressure with three birdies in his first five holes, but missed short birdie chances on the 17th and 18th, leaving him just short of a playoff.
Clark’s decisive birdie on the 72nd hole secured the victory, and he celebrated with his father, who traveled from Denver to attend the tournament.
