Wyndham Clark Wins 2026 U.S. Open, Earns $4.5 Million

Wyndham Clark finished one stroke ahead of Sam Burns to win the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills in New York, posting a final-round 73 to end the tournament at four under par. Clark’s victory earned him a $4.5 million prize from the USGA’s $22.5 million total purse, which is $1 million higher than the previous year and matches the Masters’ purse for the season.

The payout structure placed Sam Burns in second with $2.43 million, while Tom Kim took third with $1.53 million. Several players tied for fourth received $920,882 each, and the distribution continued down to $10,000 for those who missed the cut. Amateur competitors were not awarded prize money.

The 2026 purse ties the Masters for the largest in men’s major-championship history, surpassing the PGA Championship’s $20.5 million purse and approaching the PGA Tour’s flagship events, such as the Players Championship, which offers $25 million. For comparison, the last U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills in 2018 featured a $12 million purse, with the champion receiving $2.16 million.

Clark, now a five-time PGA Tour winner, claimed his second major title, having previously won the 2023 U.S. Open in Los Angeles.
