The Harris County Sheriff's Office said Butler was using the vehicle's automated driving assistance system when the car left the roadway and entered the brick residence. The victim, identified as M. Avila, was airlifted to a hospital and later pronounced dead. Butler, who sustained injuries, showed no signs of intoxication and is cooperating with investigators. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.

"Butler's Tesla entered through the brick residence, at a high rate of speed, and struck M. Avila who was inside the residence," the sheriff's office said. The driver’s legal representation has not been disclosed.
