Summary

The United States men's soccer team clinched first place in Group D after a 2-0 win over Australia and will face a third-place finisher from Groups B, E, F, I or J in the Round of 32 on July 1.

The United States men’s national soccer team qualified for the World Cup knockout stage after beating Australia 2-0, improving to 2-0 in group play and securing first place in Group D. Paraguay’s 1-0 victory over Turkey later that day confirmed the U.S. as group winners.

In the Round of 32, the United States will meet the third-place team from one of five groups – B, E, F, I or J – depending on the outcomes of the remaining group matches. Potential opponents include Bosnia and Herzegovina (Group B), Côte d’Ivoire (Group E), Japan (Group F), France (Group I) and Jordan (Group J), among others.

The knockout match is scheduled for July 1 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The final group-stage games will see the United States play Turkey at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, while Australia faces Paraguay, both on June 25.

"Paraguay’s win locked up Group D for the U.S.," a spokesperson for the U.S. federation said.

Paraguay’s own standing remains in contention as it prepares for its last group match.
