Body identified as missing Lexington woman Elena Moore

Resumen

South Carolina officials said the remains found near a Lexington gym belong to 39-year-old Elena Moore, who disappeared on June 11.

South Carolina authorities confirmed Friday that the body discovered near a Lexington gym earlier this week was identified as that of 39-year-old Elena Moore, who was reported missing on June 11. The Lexington County Coroner’s Office said an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, with further details expected on Monday.

Police said the remains were located Wednesday afternoon close to a fitness center Moore was seen leaving on the day she vanished. A preliminary identification was made by matching the clothing found with descriptions provided by family members.

"A preliminary match was made based on a clothing description," Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green told reporters.

Chief Green said the discovery resulted from a tip that came after media coverage of the case, but he did not comment on whether foul play is suspected. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is leading the death investigation, and a department spokesperson has not yet responded to requests for comment.
