Gaza Health Ministry reports 1,005 Palestinian deaths since October ceasefire

The Gaza Health Ministry says Israeli operations have killed 1,005 Palestinians since the ceasefire reached in October, while both sides accuse each other of violations.

Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of 1,005 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which tracks casualties in the enclave. The figure covers a period that began after a ceasefire was agreed between Israel and Hamas in October.

The ministry said the latest fatalities followed a series of drone strikes on towns and refugee camps in central Gaza and Gaza City. On Wednesday, an Israeli strike in Khan Younis killed two Palestinians and injured six, health officials at Nasser Hospital reported. The Israeli military confirmed the attack, stating the target was a "terrorist," but offered no further details. Hospital staff said the strike hit a group of people near the beach in the Muwasi tent camp, where many displaced residents live.

Israel maintains that its operations aim to neutralize Hamas and allied militants, noting that it has expanded control over additional territory within Gaza. The Israeli military also reported killing two militants from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad in weekend strikes.

Both sides have accused each other of breaching the ceasefire. Gaza’s Health Ministry, which does not separate civilian and combatant deaths, previously reported that the overall war death toll in Gaza exceeded 73,000.

"The target was a terrorist," an Israeli military spokesperson said.

The conflict began after Hamas militants attacked southern Israel on Oct. 7, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages, prompting Israel to launch a large-scale offensive in Gaza.
