Amazon Prime Day 2026: Best Buys and Items to Avoid
Experts advise shoppers to focus on Amazon devices, smart-home tech and small appliances during Prime Day, while postponing purchases of mattresses, TVs and large appliances until later sales.
Amazon’s Prime Day sale runs from June 23 to 26, and analysts say shoppers can maximize savings by planning ahead and targeting specific categories. Retail-insights specialist Stephanie Carls of RetailMeNot notes that Amazon-branded devices such as Blink, Ring, Fire, Kindle and Echo typically reach their lowest prices of the year during the event, making it the optimal time to buy them. Carls adds that smart-home gadgets, earbuds, tablets, speakers, smartwatches, e-readers and laptops from brands like Apple, Sony, JBL, Beats, Anker and Sonos also see strong discounts, with more than 30 % of consumers planning to shop these items, according to a RetailMeNot survey.
Small home and kitchen appliances—including vacuums, air purifiers, blenders and air fryers—from manufacturers such as Dyson, Shark, Ninja, Keurig, Breville and Nespresso are also highlighted as good deals. Everyday essentials such as paper towels, sunscreen, pet food, diapers and grocery items are recommended for purchase, especially as inflation pressures prices. Amazon is reportedly offering additional fresh-grocery discounts on meats, produce and deli products.
Summer-related merchandise, including swimwear, pool accessories, outdoor sports gear and cooling appliances, is expected to be discounted, according to Vipin Porwal, founder of the shopping-efficiency platform Smarty. He also suggests buying party supplies for July Fourth gatherings and the FIFA World Cup during the sale.
"Mattresses, large home and kitchen appliances, patio furniture and grills are better waited for July Fourth or Labor Day sales," Carls advises.
"TVs and video-game consoles tend to be cheaper on Black Friday and Cyber Monday," Porwal adds.
"Fall apparel and back-to-school supplies usually see deeper discounts closer to the school year," Carls says.
Shoppers are urged to create a detailed list, set up deal alerts via Alexa’s Shopping assistant, and monitor price-history tools such as CamelCamelCamel to verify that discounts represent true lows. Lightning Deals, which appear every few minutes and have limited inventory, are identified as some of the most lucrative offers. Porwal recommends using credit cards that provide rewards or cash-back and reviewing Amazon’s standard return policy, as no special terms apply for Prime Day purchases.
The guide emphasizes that disciplined planning and price comparison across retailers are essential to avoid impulse buys and secure the best value during the four-day event.
