Moscow Mayor Reports Dozens of Ukrainian Drones Shot Down Amid Overnight Attack

Summary

Moscow officials said at least 60 Ukrainian drones were downed in an overnight raid that damaged a refinery and prompted flight restrictions at the city’s four international airports.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that more than 60 Ukrainian long-range drones were intercepted over the capital overnight, with one drone striking a facility at the Moscow oil refinery in the Kapotnya district. No casualties were reported, and emergency crews responded to the scene.

Regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov posted that 86 drones were intercepted across the wider Moscow region, resulting in six injuries. The Russian Defence Ministry claimed its forces downed at least 172 drones during the same period.

The attacks triggered flight restrictions at all four of Moscow’s international airports – Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Zhukovsky and Sheremetyevo – and affected more than a dozen airports in southern and western Russia.

"Over the past 24 hours, an attack by enemy drones on Moscow has continued. One of the drones damaged a facility on the territory of the Moscow Refinery. There were no casualties. Emergency services are working at the scene of the incident," Sobyanin wrote on Telegram.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared a video of the burning refinery on Telegram, describing it as part of Ukraine’s long-range strike campaign. He added that such weapons are intended to pressure Russia to end the war.

The incident marks the ninth consecutive day of Ukrainian drone activity targeting Moscow, according to Sobyanin’s statements. Earlier this year, the mayor reported that 1,134 Ukrainian drones had been downed, surpassing the total intercepted in 2025.

Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched 132 drones and two missiles into Ukrainian territory overnight, with 114 drones intercepted. Both sides continue to exchange long-range strikes as diplomatic talks proceed at the G7 summit in France.
