Mitch McConnell, the 84-year-old former Senate Republican leader, was admitted to a hospital on Sunday, with his condition not disclosed.
The former Senate Republican leader was taken to a hospital on Sunday, according to a statement from his spokesperson. The 84-year-old Kentucky senator’s health status has not been made public.
"He is receiving excellent care," spokesman David Popp said in an emailed statement, without providing details about the reason for admission. McConnell, who has used a wheelchair for mobility around the Capitol and relies on staff assistance, has faced several health incidents in recent years, including a brief loss of speech during a 2023 press conference, a concussion from a fall that kept him out of the Senate for nearly six weeks, and lingering effects from childhood polio that left one leg partially paralyzed. He announced in 2024 that he would step down from leadership and in 2025 that he would not run for another term.
