U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a voluntary recall of Nara Organics Powdered Infant Formula after three infants who had been fed the product were hospitalized with infant botulism. The cases were confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and involved babies in California, Washington and Pennsylvania. All three children received treatment and survived, and no deaths have been reported.

The recalled formula, sold in Target stores and on Target.com as well as on Nara.com, was not distributed outside the United States. The FDA said no lot of the product has tested positive for Clostridium botulinum, the bacterium that causes the disease, but the company is recalling all whole-milk infant powdered formula lots, specifically 709125280E14F2, 709125288E14F2 and 708125174E14F2, which are printed on the bottom of each can.

"Nara is taking aggressive action to ensure the safety of the babies and families who use the product as we work closely with the FDA, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state partners to support their investigation into the root causes of these cases," the company said in the FDA notice.

Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately. Purchasers who bought the formula from Nara.com between May and June 2026 will receive an automatic refund, while others can request a refund online. Those who bought the product at Target are instructed to return it to the store or request a refund through Target’s website.

Infant botulism occurs when C. botulinum spores colonize a baby's intestinal tract and produce neurotoxins. Symptoms can include constipation, poor feeding, drooping eyelids, sluggish pupils, low muscle tone, difficulty sucking or swallowing, weak crying, breathing problems and generalized weakness. Caregivers should seek medical attention promptly if symptoms appear after consumption of the formula.
