The San Antonio Spurs built a quick 12-2 advantage early in the first quarter of Game 4 of the NBA Finals, held at Madison Square Garden. The Spurs converted six of eight three-point attempts, with Darius Vassell and other shooters contributing to the lead. New York’s Karl-Anthony Towns picked up two early fouls and was substituted after a challenge overturned a call on a defensive three-seconds infraction.
The Knicks responded with a layup and free throws by Josh Hart, but continued to struggle with offensive flow, prompting coach-sponsored substitutions, including third-string center Ariel Hukporti for Mitchell Robinson.
The game featured a celebrity presence, with recording artist Taylor Swift seated courtside and shown on the arena’s jumbotron during a break. Wu-Tang Clan performed at halftime.
Referee Zach Zarba, in his 23rd season, officiated the opening tip-off, which the Spurs won. The contest remained competitive, with both teams exchanging baskets and free throws throughout the quarter.
