Casualties Rise in Gaza Amid Ongoing Israeli Airstrikes

Résumé

An Israeli airstrike in Jabaliya killed eight-year-old Jad Suleiman and two others, while overall Palestinian deaths in Gaza have increased in June.

An Israeli airstrike on Monday in the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza killed eight-year-old Jad Suleiman and two other residents, including a 70-year-old man, according to local reports. The strike also wounded several people who were taken to Shifa hospital.

Health officials in Gaza said that at least 46 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks during the first nine days of June, including several children. The total number of Palestinians killed since a ceasefire agreement was signed on Oct. 10, 2025, approaches 1,000, with more than 3,000 injured, according to figures released by the Gaza Health Ministry.

The United Nations-backed ceasefire monitoring board, led by Bulgarian diplomat Nickolay Mladenov, has faced criticism from Palestinian residents who say the agreement’s terms are not being fully implemented.

Humanitarian agencies report that only about a third of the aid pledged under the ceasefire has entered Gaza, and fuel deliveries remain far below required levels. The World Food Programme estimates that 77% of Gaza’s population faces acute food insecurity.

In the Shujaiyeh neighborhood east of Gaza City, residents near the so-called “yellow line” – an Israeli-controlled area – describe daily gunfire, shelling and limited access to basic services. Israeli authorities have announced plans to increase control over additional portions of the enclave.

On Tuesday, Israeli forces detained seven members of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society while they were providing medical assistance on a main road near the “yellow line.” Five were released after questioning; two remain in custody.

Local officials and aid workers say the situation continues to strain the already limited humanitarian assistance available to Gaza’s civilian population.
