Apple updates iOS 27 with sharper app icons and removes motion shimmer
Apple's iOS 27 developer beta introduces refined app icons that are sharper and more detailed, while eliminating the motion-based shimmering effect seen in iOS 26.
Apple released the iOS 27 developer beta today, featuring a refresh of many built-in app icons. The new icons are described by the company as "sharper and more detailed" compared with the previous version, which some users said could appear blurry. The redesign builds on the Liquid Glass aesthetic introduced in iOS 26 but removes the shimmering effect that animated when the device was moved. The changes affect most of Apple's native apps, with only a few exceptions remaining unchanged.
"iOS 27’s new app icons are ‘sharper and more detailed,’" Apple said in its product description.
The updated icons are part of the broader refinements in iOS 27, which is currently available to developers for testing.
