Ukraine strikes oil facilities in Russia and Crimea, Kremlin reports drone attacks

Summary

Ukrainian forces attacked oil sites in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai and occupied Crimea, while both sides reported numerous drone engagements and civilian casualties.

Ukrainian military officials said drones hit oil infrastructure in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai region, including the Grushovaya oil transshipment base near Novorossiysk, and a linear production station in Volgograd. Russian regional authorities confirmed a fire at the Krasnodar facility but reported no casualties and said 130 rescue workers were deployed to extinguish the blaze. The Volgograd site also suffered a fire, with regional officials noting no injuries.

In the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula, Ukrainian strikes set fire to the Semykolodezkaya oil base and an oil depot near Feodosia, both used to store fuel for Russian forces. The Kremlin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, acknowledged “certain problems at the moment” and said relevant ministries were taking measures.

Russia’s defence ministry reported shooting down 310 Ukrainian drones over the past 24 hours, targeting areas in the Moscow region, western and southwestern Russia, Crimea and the Black and Azov seas. Russian air forces said they intercepted or suppressed 124 of 155 drones launched from Ukraine.

Separate Russian drone attacks injured civilians in the Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa and Chernihiv regions. Four people were wounded in Dnipropetrovsk and three in Odesa when a drone struck a public transport stop. In Crimea, a Ukrainian drone hit a passenger train, killing the driver’s assistant and injuring the driver, after which all passenger train services on the island were suspended.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Sky News that Russian businessman Roman Abramovich delivered a message from President Vladimir Putin to Kyiv, stating that Moscow wanted to gauge Ukraine’s possible actions. Zelenskyy said he is willing to meet Putin “any time” outside Russia or Belarus, either bilaterally or with U.S. and European leaders, but reiterated that Ukraine will not relinquish the Donbas region.

"There are indeed certain problems at the moment," Peskov said, adding that measures are being taken.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced a new sanctions package that would add 80 entities linked to Russia’s military-industrial complex, human-rights violations and propaganda efforts.
