Pakistan interior minister visits Tehran as US shoots down Iranian drones over Hormuz

Pakistan's interior minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Sunday to deliver a message from army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, Iranian state media said. Naqvi met with Iran's interior minister Eskandar Momeni and foreign minister Abbas Araghchi, though the content of the message was not disclosed.

The visit coincides with a U.S. Central Command report that U.S. forces shot down two more Iranian drones over the Strait of Hormuz, describing them as an "immediate threat to regional maritime traffic." The drones were intercepted as they approached the vital shipping lane, and no U.S. personnel were reported injured.

Washington continues to press Iran for a broader agreement to end the war in the Middle East, a conflict that has disrupted global trade and heightened food insecurity in vulnerable regions. The ceasefire that halted the heaviest fighting on April 8 remains fragile, with no long‑term settlement reached.

In Lebanon, fighting between Israel and Hezbollah persists despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire extension. Israel reported striking more than 150 Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon and identified several projectiles launched toward its northern border, which were intercepted or fell harmlessly. Hezbollah has not claimed responsibility for the launches but acknowledged attacks on Israeli troops.

The ongoing hostilities in Lebanon and the drone incidents in the Hormuz corridor underscore the broader regional tensions that threaten the reopening of the strait, a key conduit for oil and gas shipments worldwide.
