The online parody movement staged a protest near Parliament demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, marking its initial foray into street politics.

Hundreds of supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a satirical online movement that has amassed millions of followers, gathered near Parliament in New Delhi on Saturday for its first street protest. The demonstration was triggered by allegations of irregularities in a recent exam and broader frustrations over the education system and job prospects for young Indians.

Organizers, led by founder Abhijeet Dipke, who arrived from the United States, demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan within a week. Police had set up steel barricades at the international airport, and Dipke said authorities granted permission for the protest, noting that participants were encouraged to bring the national flag and a book as symbols of education and equal opportunity.

"CJP is doing that. So, this is literally the first thing people can connect and ask questions," said 26‑year‑old protester Mansi Sehgal.

"This is a long fight. We have been demanding his resignation for nearly a month," Dipke added at the venue.

The CJP issued a statement giving the government seven days to either accept Pradhan’s resignation or have Prime Minister Narendra Modi remove him, warning that the movement would expand nationwide if its demands are not met.

The protest tested whether the movement’s online popularity could translate into broader grassroots support amid growing discontent among young Indians over education, employment and economic prospects. Critics of the ruling party have dismissed the CJP as a social‑media gimmick, while supporters view it as a youth‑driven effort to voice grievances.

The CJP, founded three weeks ago, derives its name from a term used by India’s chief justice to describe critics. Its Instagram page now exceeds 22 million followers, and its memes and videos lampoon unemployment, corruption and political dysfunction.
