Trump Does Not Plan to Nominate Pulte as Permanent DNI

Resumen

President Donald Trump announced that Bill Pulte will not be his permanent choice for director of national intelligence following bipartisan concerns regarding Pulte's qualifications for the role.

President Donald Trump confirmed during a press briefing that Bill Pulte, the acting director of national intelligence, will not be permanently appointed to the position. This decision aligns with growing bipartisan criticism regarding Pulte's qualifications, particularly his lack of national security experience, which would be critical for overseeing 18 federal agencies involved in security matters.

While addressing reporters in the Oval Office, Trump stated, "He’s not going to be permanent because, you know, I don’t think he’d want to be permanent," referring to Pulte as a "very smart guy." The president mentioned that he is currently considering other candidates for the role, stating, "We’re interviewing people right now."

Pulte, who previously served as director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, has faced scrutiny for his controversial actions, including targeting political opponents for alleged fraud. His temporary appointment has drawn concern from both Republican and Democratic senators, with Senate Majority Leader John Thune emphasizing that the position should be led by experienced professionals. Senator Elizabeth Warren expressed her lack of trust in Pulte's ability to protect sensitive information, suggesting that his temporary role poses a risk.

Despite the pushback, Trump praised Pulte’s integrity and reiterated that he maintains a close relationship with him, noting Pulte's frequent travel on Air Force One.
