Iran Launches Attack on Kuwait Airport, Resulting in Casualties

Kuwaiti authorities reported that an Iranian attack on Kuwait International Airport resulted in one civilian fatality and at least 63 injuries on Wednesday. The strike involved a combination of missiles and drones, causing extensive damage to Terminal 1, which has been a hub for both civilian and military flights. Video footage indicated substantial fires and destruction within the terminal.

This attack marks one of the largest assaults on a Gulf nation since the U.S.-Iran cease-fire took effect in April, suggesting that Iran retains the capacity to strike its neighbors. The Iranian military claimed responsibility for the barrage, which included 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones. Kuwaiti health officials indicated that emergency services were overwhelmed, responding with more than 25 ambulances and conducting numerous surgeries.

The incident comes amid ongoing military tensions in the region, with Iran also reportedly targeting bases in Bahrain and engaging in conflicts with U.S. and Israeli forces. U.S. Central Command confirmed that the attack on Kuwait occurred alongside missile strikes aimed at other military installations, although the exact targets and intentions remain unclear. According to sources, just days prior, those terminals had reopened after previous closures due to escalated conflicts.

The overall regional conflict and these assaults have severely affected civil aviation and prompted airlines to reduce services, including British Airways, which has suspended flights to multiple destinations until later in the year. This series of escalations continues to disrupt traffic through vital shipping channels in the Strait of Hormuz, affecting global oil markets as tensions persist.
