Kuwait Airport Damaged in Iranian Drone Attack Amid US-Iran Tensions

Kuwait has halted commercial flights after an Iranian drone attack led to severe damage at Kuwait International Airport and injuries among passengers. Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi from the Kuwait Defence Ministry confirmed that multiple hostile drones targeted the airport's passenger terminal, leading to a suspension of operations by Kuwait Airways until further notice. This attack comes against a backdrop of escalating hostilities, with Iran firing missiles at Kuwait and Bahrain and the US conducting retaliatory strikes against Iranian military facilities.

Since the onset of the conflict at the end of February, Kuwait has repeatedly faced aerial assaults from Iran. On March 1, an Iranian drone targeted a US tactical operations center in Port Shuaiba, resulting in the deaths and injuries of US personnel. The US military stated it intercepted missiles aimed at Bahrain, with Bahrain's defence ministry confirming the destruction of several missiles and drones fired from Iran.

In response to these tensions, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed its latest strikes targeted the US Navy's 5th Fleet headquarters in Bahrain. The US Central Command responded by launching strikes on an Iranian military ground control station. Iran's actions reportedly aimed to retaliate against US actions perceived as aggressive, reflecting a wider conflict involving various regional actors.

Despite conflicting reports regarding ceasefire negotiations with Iran, US President Donald Trump asserted that talks were ongoing. Trump emphasized the need for Iran to enter negotiations regarding its nuclear capabilities and the security of maritime routes, which have become increasingly significant amid the ongoing geopolitical strife. The situation remains dynamic, with both sides engaged in a series of tit-for-tat military actions.
