NYPD Investigates Unusual Manhole Incidents in New York City

摘要

Authorities are looking into several strange occurrences of groups emerging from manholes throughout the city, following the circulation of social media videos.

New York police are probing a series of bizarre events where groups of individuals have been seen coming out of manholes across the city. This investigation was prompted by multiple videos shared on social media showing nighttime activity related to the sewer systems.

The NYPD reported that to ensure public safety, their Emergency Services Unit conducted an examination of the sewer system but found no threats or suspicious items left behind. Similarly, the city’s Environmental Protection Department found no damage to the sewer infrastructure during their assessment.

No arrests or injuries have been reported in connection with these incidents. One avenue of investigation is based on the theory that the individuals could be searching for valuables that may have fallen into the sewage system. Authorities first received reports of this unusual behavior last Thursday around 11 p.m., with witnesses noting eight people removing a maintenance hole cover in Brooklyn's Gravesend neighborhood. Approximately three hours later, these individuals were seen climbing out of the hole and changing clothes beside parked cars.

Later that night, another report came in regarding individuals entering a maintenance hole in Williamsburg, where they resurfaced over two hours later before departing in a vehicle. Similar incidents were also reported previously in Astoria, Queens, where witnesses described people entering a maintenance hole late at night. An observer commented on the scene, noting how the individuals appeared to be dressed unusually and acted covertly. Whether these incidents are interconnected remains uncertain, and requests for further comments from the NYPD are ongoing.
