Iran Suspends US Talks Amid Escalating Tensions in Lebanon
Iran's state media has reported that the nation is halting indirect discussions with the United States due to escalating military actions by Israel in Lebanon, while the US President claims talks are still ongoing.
Iran has announced it is suspending indirect negotiations with the United States, attributing this decision to recent Israeli military operations in Lebanon. Iranian state media reported that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards issued threats of escalating hostilities should Israeli attacks continue.
In contrast, US President Donald Trump has stated that discussions are progressing at a 'rapid pace,' claiming that both Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to halt their attacks on each other. Trump emphasized the importance of collaboration, saying he had spoken directly with both sides to secure commitments to de-escalate the conflict.
The situation remains tense, as Israeli forces have intensified their campaign in southern Lebanon, resulting in military advances and significant casualties. A recent report indicated that over 3,370 individuals have died since the conflict escalated, and more than 1.2 million people have been displaced in Lebanon since early March. The conflict has drawn in international attention, prompting the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting amid fears of further escalation.
