IDF Announces Casualty in Hezbollah Drone Strike Amid Strategic Territorial Gains

सारांश

The IDF confirmed the death of a soldier in a Hezbollah drone strike while announcing the capture of Beaufort Castle during ongoing military operations in southern Lebanon.

A soldier was killed and four others were injured in a drone attack by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the capture of the historic Beaufort Castle. Staff Sgt. Michael Tyukin, 21, of the Givati Brigade, suffered fatal injuries when a drone targeted his unit late Saturday night. The other wounded soldiers were transported to a hospital for treatment.

Following the drone strike, Israeli forces claimed territory in the Beaufort Ridge area, launching ground operations aimed at neutralizing Hezbollah's infrastructure. Footage showed flags flying over the medieval fortress, which has historical significance and strategic value due to its vantage point over northern Israel and southern Lebanon.

Defense Minister Israel Katz remarked on the capture of Beaufort Castle, stating, “The capture of the Beaufort and the expansion of the [ground] maneuver constitute a clear message to our enemies: Whoever threatens the citizens of Israel will lose their strategic assets one after another.”

The IDF's operations have expanded beyond the Litani River, targeting areas believed to be used by Hezbollah for launching attacks against Israel. The military reported that more than 5,500 rockets and around 300 drones have been deployed by Hezbollah during the ongoing conflict, with significant firepower coming from deeper in Lebanese territory. In response to these hostilities, the IDF warned of the risks for civilians near Hezbollah facilities.

Casualties included Tyukin, who immigrated to Israel from Ukraine in 2020. Condolences poured in from officials, with Katz noting Tyukin's commitment to Israel, calling him a “symbol of Zionism.” The situation along the Israel-Lebanon border remains tense, with educational institutions and tourist sites in northern Israel closing due to safety concerns amid ongoing Hezbollah attacks.
