Ukraine Prepares for Imminent Russian Assault Using Drones and Missiles

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has alerted the nation to brace for significant Russian attacks potentially starting Friday or Saturday, based on intelligence received by his administration. In an interview with CBS News, Zelenskyy highlighted that the anticipated assault could involve drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. He emphasized the necessity for citizens to remain vigilant and utilize bomb shelters during this period of heightened threat, stating that there is a high likelihood of attacks occurring soon.

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the U.S. and European allies for their intelligence-sharing, while urging for more defensive weaponry to counter Russian missiles effectively. In a letter to U.S. officials, he made a case for acquiring more Patriot missile systems in response to a recently intensified attack by Russia that resulted in casualties and significant damage, marking one of the most severe assaults on Kyiv since the conflict began.

The recent bombardment included 600 drones and numerous missiles, alongside a hypersonic missile with nuclear capabilities. Further complicating matters, Russian drones have breached Romanian airspace, prompting NATO jets to be deployed. While a senior NATO official confirmed tracking the intrusion, President Vladimir Putin blamed Ukraine for the incident, disputing its source until debris could be analyzed.

Zelenskyy interpreted the ongoing attacks as a tactic by Putin to intimidate Ukraine's allies and gauge their defensive readiness. He called for a stronger unified response from NATO states to assert their commitment to collective defense.
