Bret Michaels Leads Withdrawal from 'Great American State Fair' Amid Controversy

Summary

Bret Michaels became the fifth performer to withdraw from the 'Great American State Fair,' citing safety concerns and a shift towards divisive politics. Martina McBride also expressed disappointment, stating the event was not as she expected.

Bret Michaels has announced he is withdrawing from the upcoming 'Great American State Fair,' marking the fifth act to exit the event associated with the Trump administration's 'Freedom 250' celebrations. Michaels stated that his performances have 'never been about politics,' and he found the event's evolution towards a divisive atmosphere unacceptable. He emphasized the seriousness of safety concerns for himself and others involved, citing 'unfounded and unforgivable' threats.

Martina McBride also expressed her disillusionment, revealing she believed the event would be a wholesome celebration much like traditional state fairs. However, she noted changes in the event’s character that did not align with her expectations. 'It upsets me that any fan who has been moved by my music may now feel like I'm abandoning the meaning behind those songs,' she stated.

Despite the withdrawals, the event is still set to feature performances from artists like C+C Music Factory, Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, and Flo Rida. Vanilla Ice, in a recent Instagram video, emphasized that the event is not intended as a political platform but rather a celebration of America’s birthday. C+C Music Factory also initially considered dropping out but opted to remain after fan backlash against their potential exit.

The 'Great American State Fair' is a free event, though attendees are encouraged to register for tickets. It is a part of a series of happenings organized to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States, which will include performances, speeches, and a fireworks display. In contrast, a separate event called the 'Power To The People Festival' featuring artists such as Bruce Springsteen and the Foo Fighters is set to take place in Maryland in October, with tickets priced starting at $125.
