FAA requires investigation after SpaceX's Starship V3 flight mishap

The FAA has grounded SpaceX's Starship V3, declaring the recent flight a mishap that requires investigation. Officials stated that any future flights must ensure that public safety is not compromised by systems or processes related to the incident.
Starship V3, part of SpaceX's ambitious plans for deep-space exploration, is designed for rapid reusability and forms a crucial element of missions such as NASA’s Artemis 4, planned for late 2028. The vehicle is a combination of the Super Heavy first-stage booster and the upper-stage spacecraft, Starship.
Despite the designation of mishap, the flight successfully deployed 20 dummy Starlink satellites along with two operational satellites, which captured images of the heat shield during reentry. However, the Super Heavy booster failed to perform the required engine burns, resulting in a hard splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico rather than a controlled return.
The FAA announced that it will supervise the investigation process led by SpaceX, ensuring all corrective actions are approved before the vehicle can fly again.
