UFC Octagon Installation at White House Ahead of Summer Fights
Construction of a UFC Octagon is underway on the White House South Lawn for an event scheduled on June 14, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The White House South Lawn is currently undergoing construction for an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon in preparation for a significant fight event planned for June 14, coinciding with President Donald Trump's birthday and Flag Day. The occasion, named "UFC Freedom Fights 250," will feature a lightweight title bout between reigning champion Ilia Topuria and interim titleholder Justin Gaethje, among other matches.
According to UFC, selected fighters will receive prize money, with contributions sourced from Crypto.com. The Octagon's scaffolding, designed to illuminate the fighting area, is visible from the White House's North Lawn, rising above the historic West Wing and Oval Office.
President Trump has highlighted the event's popularity, proclaiming at a recent congressional picnic that the demand for tickets has been unprecedented. He also indicated that entry to the fights would be free, allowing tens of thousands to gather in the South Lawn and nearby parks to watch the matches.
Trump noted, "Our country is invited to this, it's free," and mentioned the Ellipse's capacity to host an audience of 75,000 to 100,000, along with plans for large screens to showcase the fights. Meanwhile, UFC shared new renderings on social media illustrating the anticipated setup for the fights and related festivities at Ellipse Park.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle expressed that the event would be a historical landmark in sports, stating, "President Trump hosting it at the White House is a testament to his vision to celebrate America’s monumental 250th anniversary."
