Officials report that there is no immediate threat to public safety; however, residents are advised to avoid Industrial Way and the surrounding areas while emergency crews manage the situation. The Washington State Department of Ecology identified Nihon Dynawave as a kraft pulp and paper mill, which produces various paper products.

Victims have sustained chemical burns and other injuries and were transported to local medical facilities, including PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview and PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver. The extent of the injuries has yet to be determined. Fire crews, a hazmat team, and approximately five fire engines and seven ambulances are currently assisting at the scene, alongside Cowlitz County firefighters and deputies.
