U.S. and Iran Near Agreement to End Conflict and Reopen Strait of Hormuz

President Donald Trump announced that a deal with Iran to end the ongoing conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz is nearing completion.

"Final aspects and details of the Deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly," Trump stated on social media.

The President indicated that he had engaged in discussions with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, and Israel to facilitate the agreement.

The proposed agreement includes Iran's commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons and to relinquish its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.

Additionally, the deal aims to end hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon and to ensure non-interference in the domestic affairs of regional countries.

The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is a key component of the agreement, with Iran agreeing to allow maritime traffic through the strait.

The U.S. will also allow Iran to sell its oil through sanctions waivers, with sanctions relief and the release of Iran's frozen funds to be negotiated during a 60-day time frame.

The announcement follows a period of heightened tensions, including a U.S.-Israeli offensive on February 28 that led to Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz to foreign shipping.

A ceasefire has been in place since April 7, but the closure of the strait has significantly impacted global shipping and energy prices.

British naval forces are preparing to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz once the peace deal is finalized, aiming to restore safe passage for international shipping.

While the deal is nearing completion, some Republican lawmakers have expressed opposition, urging continued military pressure on Iran.

The finalization of the agreement is anticipated in the coming days, pending the resolution of remaining details.
