Kyle Busch, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, has died at 41 after severe pneumonia led to sepsis, resulting in rapid complications, his family confirmed.

Busch became unresponsive during a Chevrolet simulator session in Concord, North Carolina, and was transported to a Charlotte hospital, where he passed away on Thursday.

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body's response to infection causes tissue damage and organ failure, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Busch had reported feeling unwell during recent races but continued to compete, winning a Truck Series race at Dover shortly before his death.

The NASCAR community has expressed profound grief over Busch's passing. Fellow driver Denny Hamlin stated, "Absolutely cannot comprehend this news. We just need to think of his family during this time. We love you KB."

In tribute, Richard Childress Racing will temporarily retire Busch’s No. 8 car number, and all cars in Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 race will display a black No. 8 decal. Austin Hill will replace Busch for the race.

Busch's legacy includes a record-breaking 234 wins across NASCAR’s top three series and a reputation for his competitive and outspoken nature, often seen as polarizing but ultimately respected in the racing world.
