Summary

Kyle Busch, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, has died at 41 after severe pneumonia led to sepsis, his family confirmed.

Kyle Busch, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, passed away on Thursday at the age of 41. His family confirmed that severe pneumonia progressed into sepsis, resulting in rapid and overwhelming complications.

Busch was hospitalized after collapsing during a simulator session in Concord, North Carolina. He had been experiencing symptoms including shortness of breath and coughing up blood prior to his hospitalization. Despite these health issues, Busch had recently competed in the NASCAR All-Star Race and won a Truck Series race.

NASCAR CEO Steve O'Donnell described Busch as a "rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation." Busch's team, Richard Childress Racing, announced they would retire his No. 8 car until his son, Brexton, is ready to race.

Busch's career spanned over two decades, during which he secured 63 Cup Series victories and two championships in 2015 and 2019. He holds the record for the most wins across NASCAR's three national series, with a total of 234 victories.

He is survived by his wife, Samantha, and their two children, Brexton and Lennix. The NASCAR community continues to mourn the loss of one of its most accomplished and influential drivers.
