Tulsi Gabbard Resigns as Director of National Intelligence Amid Husband's Health Battle

Summary

Tulsi Gabbard has announced her resignation as Director of National Intelligence, effective June 30, to support her husband during his treatment for a rare bone cancer.

Tulsi Gabbard has announced her resignation as Director of National Intelligence, effective June 30, to support her husband during his treatment for a rare bone cancer. In her resignation letter to President Donald Trump, Gabbard stated, "My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. He faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months. At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle."

President Trump praised Gabbard's service, noting she "has done an incredible job," and announced that Aaron Lukas, Gabbard's deputy, will serve as acting director in the interim.

Gabbard's resignation marks the fourth departure of a Cabinet member this year, following the exits of Attorney General Pam Bondi, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer.

During her tenure, Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman known for her anti-interventionist stance, faced challenges aligning with the administration's foreign policy, particularly regarding military actions in Iran.

Her departure comes amid ongoing tensions within the administration over foreign policy decisions.
