Wembanyama's 41-Point, 24-Rebound Performance Leads Spurs to Double-OT Victory Over Thunder in Western Conference Finals Opener

In a thrilling double-overtime contest, the San Antonio Spurs secured a 122-115 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Monday night. Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 41 points and 24 rebounds, becoming the youngest player to achieve a 40-point, 20-rebound performance in NBA playoff history at 22 years and 134 days old.

Dylan Harper contributed 24 points and set a team playoff record with seven steals. Stephon Castle added 17 points, while Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson each scored 13. The Spurs played without All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox, who was sidelined due to ankle stiffness.

For the Thunder, Alex Caruso came off the bench to score 31 points, marking the second-highest scoring game of his career. Jalen Williams returned from a six-game absence due to a hamstring strain and added 26 points. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who received his second consecutive MVP trophy before the game, recorded 24 points and 12 assists but struggled with shooting efficiency, making 7 of 23 attempts from the field.

The game remained tightly contested throughout regulation and the first overtime period. Wembanyama forced the second overtime with a deep three-pointer in the final minute of the first extra session. He then dominated the second overtime, sealing the win with a late and-one dunk over Chet Holmgren.

Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson praised Wembanyama's performance, stating, "He has a rare desire to step into every moment that's in front of him."

The Spurs' defense effectively limited the Thunder's offense, holding them to 40.6% shooting from the field and forcing 14 turnovers. Holmgren was held to 8 points on 2-of-7 shooting, while Gilgeous-Alexander managed 24 points but struggled with efficiency.

Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night in Oklahoma City.
