McNealy and Smalley Lead US PGA Championship; McIlroy and Scheffler in Contention
Maverick McNealy and Alex Smalley share the lead at the US PGA Championship, with Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler close behind as Aronimink Golf Club challenges the field.
Maverick McNealy and Alex Smalley are tied for the lead at the US PGA Championship after two rounds at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Both Americans have navigated the challenging course to position themselves at the top of a tightly packed leaderboard.
Rory McIlroy, the reigning Masters champion, rebounded from a disappointing opening round by carding a bogey-free 67 on Friday. This performance brings him to one over par, five strokes behind the leaders. Reflecting on his round, McIlroy stated, "It was a day to get back into the tournament and that's what I managed to do."
World number one Scottie Scheffler is also in contention, sitting at two under par alongside Cameron Young and Ludvig Åberg. Spain's Jon Rahm follows closely at one under. Fifteen players are within two strokes of the lead, making the tournament highly competitive.
Aronimink Golf Club, a Donald Ross-designed course, has proven to be a formidable test for the field. The course's setup has been particularly punishing, with more three-putts recorded after two rounds than during the entire Masters tournament. McIlroy noted the importance of patience, saying, "Anybody who makes the cut will feel they're right in this golf tournament."
The tournament continues to be unpredictable, with a crowded leaderboard and challenging course conditions setting the stage for an exciting weekend of golf.
