Suspect Arrested in University of Washington Student's Fatal Stabbing

A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old transgender University of Washington student. The suspect surrendered to Bellevue police on Wednesday night and was subsequently transferred to Seattle Police Department (SPD) detectives. He has been booked into King County Jail for investigation of murder.

The victim was found with stab wounds in a laundry room at the Nordheim Court Apartments, an off-campus housing facility for UW students, on Sunday night.

Prior to the arrest, SPD had released photos of a suspect described as armed and dangerous.

UW President Robert J. Jones expressed condolences, stating, "There are no words that can express the profound loss of a student." He acknowledged the impact on the LGBTQIA+ community, noting, "When violence affects a trans person, it can be especially worrying to our LGBTQIA+ community members."

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with additional information to contact the SPD violent crimes tip line at 206-233-5000. Anonymous tips are welcome.
