A vessel anchored off the east coast of the United Arab Emirates has been seized by unauthorized personnel and is now heading toward Iranian territorial waters, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center reported on Thursday. The incident occurred approximately 38 nautical miles (70 kilometers) northeast of the UAE port of Fujairah, near the strategic Strait of Hormuz. UKMTO is currently investigating the situation and has not disclosed the vessel's identity or the parties involved in the seizure.
In a separate development, an Indian-flagged cargo ship sank off the coast of Oman after an attack caused a fire onboard. All crew members were rescued, but the attackers have not been identified.
These maritime incidents occur amid heightened regional tensions. U.S. President Donald Trump is meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing, with discussions expected to focus on the ongoing conflict with Iran, which has significantly disrupted global trade and the economy.
