Salmonella Concerns Prompt Recall of Multiple Snack Products

Summary

A salmonella outbreak linked to contaminated powdered milk has led to the recall of various snack items, including potato chips, popcorn, and beverage mixes.

A salmonella outbreak traced to powdered milk and buttermilk supplied by California Dairies Inc. has resulted in the recall of several snack products. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that the dairy ingredients were voluntarily recalled on April 20 due to potential contamination.

The affected products include Ghirardelli's powdered beverage mixes, Zapp's and Dirty potato chips, Pork King Good pork rinds and seasoning bottles, and snack mixes from brands such as Fisher, Southern Style Nuts, Squirrel Brand, and Good & Gather. Additionally, Stoltzfus Family Dairy's sour cream and onion cheese curds, Wildlife Seasoning's flavored popcorn seasoning, and Giant Eagle's Ita Chips with Parmesan, garlic, and herbs have been recalled.

Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause gastrointestinal illness, with symptoms including diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting, and fever. Most individuals recover within four to seven days; however, severe cases can occur, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products are advised not to consume them and should either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase. For a comprehensive list of affected products and further details, individuals can refer to the FDA's official announcements.
