UK to Deploy Military Assets for Strait of Hormuz Security Mission

सारांश

The United Kingdom announces deployment of drones, fighter jets, and a warship to a multinational mission aimed at securing the Strait of Hormuz.

The United Kingdom has announced its commitment to a multinational mission aimed at securing the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime passage through which approximately 20% of the world's oil transits.

Defence Secretary John Healey detailed the UK's contributions during a virtual summit with defense ministers from over 40 nations. The UK's deployment will include autonomous mine-hunting equipment, counter-drone systems, Typhoon fighter jets for air patrols, and the Type 45 destroyer HMS Dragon.

Healey emphasized the mission's defensive nature, stating, "With our allies, this multinational mission will be defensive, independent, and credible."

The UK government has allocated £115 million in new funding to support these capabilities.

HMS Dragon is en route to the Middle East, having completed rigorous weapons and sensor testing to ensure readiness for potential operations in the Strait of Hormuz.

The multinational mission, co-led by the UK and France, aims to restore confidence for commercial shipping along the Strait of Hormuz.

The UK currently has over 1,000 personnel deployed in the region as part of existing defensive operations, including counter-drone teams and fast jet squadrons.
