Authorities Scale Back Search for Nancy Guthrie After 100 Days

Summary

Investigators have reduced resources in the search for Nancy Guthrie, mother of 'Today' host Savannah Guthrie, as the case shifts focus from rescue to recovery.

After 100 days, authorities have reduced resources in the search for Nancy Guthrie, 84, mother of 'Today' host Savannah Guthrie, who disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona, home on February 1. Retired FBI agent Jason Pack noted that the initial response involved 'a few hundred agents and officers,' which has now decreased to 'a few dozen.' Former CIA member and FBI special agent Tracy Walder indicated the investigation has shifted from a 'rescue' to a 'recovery' operation, suggesting a reduced sense of urgency.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department stated, 'The Pima County Sheriff's Department remains fully committed to the investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. This is an active and ongoing investigation, and we continue to work closely with our partners at the FBI.' They confirmed that DNA and video analyses are underway, supported by laboratories nationwide.

Savannah Guthrie, 54, shared a tribute to her mother on Mother's Day, expressing, 'Mother, daughter, sister, Nonie – we miss you with every breath. We will never stop looking for you. We will never be at peace until we find you.' She urged the public to provide any information that could assist in the search.
