Russia and China Bolster Iran's Military Capabilities Amid Ceasefire

Russia is reportedly supplying Iran with drone components via the Caspian Sea to help rebuild its military capabilities during the current ceasefire. European intelligence agencies believe Russia is in the final stages of preparing to supply drones to Iran for use in its conflict with the U.S. and Israel. This development follows previous reports of Russia sending upgraded drones to Iran, enhancing the technology that Tehran initially supplied to Moscow during the Ukraine war.

In addition to Russia's support, Chinese companies have been supplying Iran with satellite imagery and drone components. The U.S. State Department recently sanctioned several Chinese entities for providing satellite imagery to Iran, which was used to target U.S. military assets in the Middle East. Among the sanctioned entities are Earth Eye and Chang Guang Satellite Technology, both based in China. Furthermore, Chinese firms have continued to supply Iran and Russia with dual-use goods, including drone parts, despite U.S. sanctions. These goods include engines, batteries, microchips, fiber-optic cables, and gyroscopes.

The United States has responded by imposing sanctions on Chinese companies involved in supplying military technology to Iran. The U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned 10 individuals and companies, including entities based in China and Hong Kong, for supporting Iranian efforts to procure weapons components and raw materials used to produce drones and ballistic missiles. These actions underscore the ongoing geopolitical tensions and the complex web of international support influencing the balance of power in the Middle East.
