Knicks Secure 3-0 Series Lead Over 76ers with 108-94 Victory
Jalen Brunson's 33-point performance propels New York to a commanding lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
The New York Knicks defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 108-94 on Friday night, taking a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 33 points, overcoming a slow start to finish 11 of 22 from the field. Head coach Mike Brown praised Brunson's impact, stating, "I'm Linus. Jalen's my blanket. He helps me relax at a lot of different times during the course of the game."
Mikal Bridges contributed 23 points, while Josh Hart added a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Knicks' strong fourth-quarter performance extended a narrow lead into a decisive victory. Despite the absence of forward OG Anunoby, who is averaging 21.4 points per game in the postseason and sat out with a strained right hamstring, New York maintained control.
Joel Embiid returned for the 76ers after missing Game 2 due to a sprained right ankle and sore right hip, scoring 18 points. Coach Nick Nurse commented on Embiid's effort, saying, "I thought he gave us everything he could." Kelly Oubre Jr. led Philadelphia with 22 points, and Tyrese Maxey added 17. Paul George scored 15 points in the first quarter but was held scoreless for the remainder of the game, missing all nine of his subsequent shots.
The 76ers attempted to rally in the fourth quarter, narrowing the gap to 88-84. However, the Knicks responded with a 9-0 run, highlighted by a three-pointer from Brunson that extended the lead to 95-86. The game was notable for the significant presence of Knicks fans in Philadelphia's arena, despite efforts by 76ers fans to retain home-court advantage. Embiid had previously urged local fans not to sell their tickets to New Yorkers.
Game 4 is scheduled for Sunday in Philadelphia, where the Knicks will aim to secure a series sweep and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
