Apple's Upcoming A20 Pro Chip to Feature 2nm Process and Advanced Packaging
Apple's forthcoming A20 Pro chip, set to debut in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold, will utilize TSMC's 2-nanometer process and Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module packaging for enhanced performance and efficiency.
Apple is preparing to introduce its A20 Pro chip in the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold models, marking a significant advancement in its mobile processor technology. The A20 Pro will be manufactured using TSMC's 2-nanometer process, a shift from the current 3-nanometer technology, promising up to 15% faster performance and 30% improved energy efficiency compared to its predecessor.
In addition to the new fabrication process, the A20 Pro will incorporate TSMC's Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM) packaging. This technique integrates components such as the CPU, GPU, and RAM directly at the wafer level, enhancing thermal management and signal integrity.
The A20 Pro chip is expected to debut in September 2026, exclusively in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold models.
