U.S. Navy Destroyers Repel Iranian Attacks in Strait of Hormuz
U.S. Navy destroyers successfully defended against Iranian assaults while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, with no damage sustained.
On May 7, 2026, U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers USS Truxtun (DDG 103), USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115), and USS Mason (DDG 87) transited the Strait of Hormuz en route to the Gulf of Oman. During the passage, Iranian forces launched missiles, drones, and deployed small boats targeting the U.S. vessels. All incoming threats were intercepted, and no American ships sustained damage.
In response, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted self-defense strikes on Iranian military facilities responsible for the attacks, including missile and drone launch sites, command and control centers, and intelligence nodes. CENTCOM emphasized that the U.S. does not seek escalation but remains prepared to protect its forces.
This incident follows recent tensions in the region, with Iran previously targeting U.S. naval and commercial vessels, as well as ships from the United Arab Emirates. Iran has accused the U.S. of violating a ceasefire and has threatened retaliation. President Donald Trump warned that further action could follow if Iran does not quickly agree to a deal.
