Ukrainian Drones Target Russian Military Logistics Facility Near Moscow
Ukrainian drones reportedly struck the Nara military logistics complex in Naro-Fominsk, southwest of Moscow, amid heightened security measures ahead of Russia's Victory Day celebrations.
Ukrainian drones reportedly struck the Nara military logistics complex in Naro-Fominsk, Moscow Oblast, early on May 7. The facility, spanning over 180 hectares, serves as a key storage and distribution center for the Russian Defense Ministry. Residents reported explosions and air defense activity in the area.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that 11 drones were intercepted near the capital, with emergency services addressing debris impact sites. He did not confirm the reported strike on the Nara complex.
The incident occurs as Russia intensifies security measures ahead of the May 9 Victory Day parade, including airport closures and mobile internet restrictions in Moscow.
In related developments, Russian authorities reported drone attacks in other regions. In Bryansk, 13 people, including a child, were injured, and multiple apartments and vehicles were damaged. In Rzhev, drone strikes damaged residential buildings, leading to the evacuation of 350 residents.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that air defenses intercepted and destroyed 347 Ukrainian drones overnight across 20 regions, including occupied Crimea and areas over the Black, Azov, and Caspian seas.
These events unfold amid competing ceasefire proposals. Russia suggested a temporary truce for May 8-9, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected as "cynical," proposing instead a unilateral "regime of silence" starting May 6. Zelensky reported that Russia ignored this offer, continuing military activities with over 1,800 strikes across several Ukrainian regions.
In response, Moscow warned of potential "massive retaliatory strikes" on Kyiv if Victory Day events were disrupted. The upcoming parade has been scaled back, with indications that heavy military equipment may not be featured for the first time since 2007.
