Commerce Secretary Lutnick Testifies Before House Committee on Epstein Ties

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick appeared before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday to address questions about his past interactions with Jeffrey Epstein. The closed-door session focused on inconsistencies between Lutnick's previous statements and newly released documents.

Lutnick had previously stated that he severed ties with Epstein in 2005. However, documents released by the Justice Department revealed that he and his family visited Epstein's private island in 2012. In his testimony, Lutnick acknowledged the visit but maintained that he had limited contact with Epstein and did nothing wrong.

The session elicited partisan reactions. Republican Committee Chair James Comer described Lutnick as forthcoming, while Democratic Representative Ro Khanna accused him of dishonesty and called for his resignation.

The White House continues to support Lutnick, emphasizing his cooperation with the committee. A transcript of the interview is expected to be released, contributing to ongoing congressional inquiries into Epstein’s network and associations.
