Trump Pauses 'Project Freedom' Amid Progress in Iran Negotiations

President Donald Trump announced a temporary pause in the U.S. military operation known as 'Project Freedom,' which aimed to escort commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. This decision comes amid reports of substantial progress in negotiations with Iran toward a peace agreement.

The operation, initiated to ensure the safe passage of ships through the strategic waterway, had been in effect for just one day before the suspension. President Trump stated that the pause was made "based on the request of Pakistan and other Countries, the tremendous Military Success that we have had during the Campaign against the Country of Iran and, additionally, the fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran."

Despite the suspension of 'Project Freedom,' the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports remains in place. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that while offensive operations have concluded, defensive measures will continue, and Iran must "pay a price" for its efforts to control the strait.

In a related development, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing. The high-level talks between the two nations are seen as a significant diplomatic engagement amid the ongoing U.S.-Iran tensions.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime chokepoint through which approximately one-fifth of the world's energy supplies pass. The U.S. and its allies have been working to reopen the strait, which has been effectively sealed by Iran since the conflict began on February 28.

The pause in 'Project Freedom' reflects a strategic shift by the U.S. administration to prioritize diplomatic efforts over military operations in resolving the conflict with Iran.
