Apple's iOS 27 to Support Third-Party AI Integrations

Résumé

Apple's upcoming iOS 27 will allow users to integrate third-party AI models like Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude into features such as Siri and Writing Tools.

Apple's forthcoming iOS 27 update is set to introduce a feature called "Extensions," enabling users to integrate third-party AI models into various applications, including Siri, Writing Tools, and Image Playground. This development allows iPhone users to select AI services from providers like Google and Anthropic, offering a personalized experience across Apple's software ecosystem.

In test versions of iOS 27, Apple describes Extensions as a means to "access generative AI capabilities from installed apps on demand, through Apple Intelligence features such as Siri, Writing Tools, Image Playground and more." This functionality is expected to extend to iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, broadening the scope of AI integration across Apple's devices.

Additionally, iOS 27 will offer users the option to assign different voices to Siri responses based on the AI model in use. For instance, queries handled by Apple's native system could utilize one voice, while responses from third-party models like Anthropic's Claude could employ another, enhancing user clarity regarding the source of information.

Apple plans to unveil iOS 27 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 8, with the update anticipated to be available to users in the fall.
