The share prices of crypto-focused companies increased this week during a broader market movement that resulted in Bitcoin reaching multiple all-time highs, despite a decrease on Friday in equity indexes.
Coinbase and Strategy both increased by approximately 9% and 12%, respectively, over the past five days, according to Yahoo Finance data. Stock and crypto trading platform Robinhood increased by 5%. The stock prices of major Bitcoin miners also increased, with MARA Holdings rising by approximately 12%.
These increases occurred as Bitcoin exceeded $118,500 at one point on Friday, up more than 9% from Monday and about 6% above its previous all-time high, according to crypto markets data provider CoinGecko. This led to a broader increase in crypto prices. Institutional investors' increased activity in digital assets, expectations for potential interest rate cuts, and a statement by U.S. President Donald Trump were factors during the week.
BTC has increased 25% year-to-date, with crypto-focused and related stocks also experiencing increases. Coinbase, the largest crypto exchange in the U.S., has increased 50% since January 1 to trade at $383. Strategy has increased 45% over the same period.
Analysts at Bernstein recently set a price target of $510 on Coinbase and rated the stock "outperform." Benchmark analyst Mark Palmer also rated the firm a "buy" in June. San Francisco-based Coinbase has completed multiple agreements to expand its services, announcing a partnership on Thursday with artificial intelligence provider Perplexity, and last week with Liquifi.
Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, closed at $434.58. The software company, which shifted to focus on Bitcoin holdings in 2020, holds nearly 600,000 bitcoin valued at approximately $70 billion.
Among leading Bitcoin miners, CleanSpark (CLSK) and Riot Platforms (RIOT) increased 8% and 7%, respectively, over the past week. Earlier this month, these firms and MARA all reported decreases in June Bitcoin production.
Crypto-focused exchange traded funds also increased, with BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) closing near its all-time high. On Thursday, the spot Bitcoin fund reached $80 billion in assets under management, which was the fastest growth to this level for any ETF in the industry's 32-year history, according to Bloomberg data. IBIT's share price increased 9% during the week, while the iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) increased more than 17% for the period.
The tech-focused Nasdaq and S&P 500 closed down 0.22% and 0.33%, respectively, as trade tensions with Canada increased.
In a post on his Truth Social media platform, Trump commented on recent changes in crypto and equities. > "Tech Stocks, Industrial Stocks, & NASDAQ, HIT ALL-TIME, RECORD HIGHS! CRYPTO, 'Through the Roof'," he wrote, urging the U.S. central bank to lower interest rates.
Investors have become more optimistic about potential rate cuts in recent weeks, while concerns remain about the effects of Trump's global trade policies, inflation, and geopolitical issues in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Bitcoin reached a new all-time high this week following comments by President Trump regarding the economy, the stock market, and the Federal Reserve's interest rate policy.
