A vehicle crashed into the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland early Saturday, resulting in one fatality and the discovery of a possible explosive device.

Early Saturday morning, a vehicle crashed through the front entrance of the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, Oregon, resulting in the death of the driver and the discovery of evidence suggesting an explosive device inside the vehicle.

Portland Fire & Rescue responded to the incident at 1849 Southwest Salmon Street around 2:49 a.m. Upon extinguishing the ensuing fire, emergency crews found one person deceased inside the vehicle.

The Portland Police Bureau's Explosive Disposal Unit was called to the scene after investigators found evidence indicating the presence of an explosive device within the vehicle. Authorities have not disclosed specific details about the device.

In response to the incident, several streets surrounding the club were closed, including Southwest 18th Avenue from Taylor to Madison Streets and Southwest 20th Avenue from Morrison to Madison Streets. The public is advised to avoid the area as the investigation continues.

This event follows a previous incident on April 8, when a vehicle sideswiped another car on Southwest Salmon Street before crashing into a planter box near the club's entrance, injuring a security guard. Police have stated there is no indication that the two incidents are related.
