The satirical news outlet The Onion has submitted a proposal to a Texas state judge to take over Infowars, the platform previously operated by conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. The plan involves transforming Infowars into a parody site, with comedian Tim Heidecker appointed as creative director.
The proposed six-month licensing agreement includes The Onion paying $81,000 monthly to cover operational costs, with profits directed to the families of Sandy Hook victims. This initiative follows Jones' defamation judgments totaling $1.4 billion for spreading false claims about the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting.
Heidecker expressed his vision for the project, stating, "I thought it was a really unusual chance to take something destructive and turn it into something creative."
The court's decision on the proposal is pending, with a hearing scheduled for April 30, 2026. If approved, the revamped Infowars is expected to launch shortly thereafter.
