Artemis II Crew Shares First Post-Splashdown Snack Experience

Résumé

After their historic lunar mission, the Artemis II astronauts revealed they enjoyed peanut M&Ms while awaiting recovery in the Pacific Ocean.

Following their historic 10-day mission around the Moon, the Artemis II crew—Reid Wiseman, Christina Koch, Victor Glover, and Jeremy Hansen—shared details about their return to Earth. During a live town hall on "CBS Mornings," Wiseman recounted that as they awaited recovery in the Pacific Ocean, Koch produced peanut M&Ms from her spacesuit pocket, offering them to the crew. Wiseman described the moment: "When we landed, we splashed down into the Pacific Ocean, waiting for the rescue forces to come open the hatch, and Christina, out of her spacesuit pocket, goes, 'I got some peanut M&Ms, anybody want some?'"

The crew also discussed their in-flight meals, noting a memorable occasion on the seventh day when they connected with the International Space Station crew. Wiseman highlighted that both crews were enjoying the same menu items, including spicy green beans, broccoli au gratin, and beef fajitas. He remarked, "It was one of our favorite days and the best part about that whole call was we were all eating the same food."

Reflecting on their journey, the astronauts shared their impressions of Earth from space. Wiseman noted that by the third day, they began referring to Earth as "Tiny Earth" due to its small appearance from their vantage point. He explained, "Around day three, we started to call it Tiny Earth because it's this big out the window."

The Artemis II mission, which concluded with a splashdown off the coast of San Diego on April 10, 2026, marked the first crewed lunar voyage in over five decades. The crew traveled a record-breaking distance of 252,756 miles from Earth, surpassing previous missions.
